Comprehensive On-site Acceptance Criteria for Qualified Electrical Wires & Cables

Over the years of conducting cable acceptance and on-site supply for engineering projects, to be honest, I have seen too many substandard cables, non-standard cables, and OEM cables in the market. Many procurement personnel and new construction site workers have suffered losses. It's not because they don't understand the parameters, but because they are too naive and only look at the price. In the end, the construction site experiences rework, fails the acceptance inspection, and even leaves safety hazards, all of which are traps. Today, Zhejiang Zhongjing Cable does not recite the specifications or recite the standards. Instead, using our over a decade of on-site experience, we will teach ordinary people and construction site workers how to self-check the quality of wires and cables. It's simple, direct, and effective.

First and foremost, never ignore the 3C certification. Many people think that just having a label is enough and don't carefully examine it. Cables and wires are mandatory certified products by the state. Official manufacturers must pass the 3C certification and have official certificates. I never just check if there is a label on the wire. I will verify: the wire material, the certificate of conformity, and the test report of the current batch. All three must match, the model must be consistent, and the certificate must be valid. Many small factories just copy certificates, use fake labels, and reuse old certificates. They look like national standards, but in fact, they don't meet any standards. Such cables, when installed on the construction site, are prone to overheating, leakage, and fire. This is a high probability event.

Then comes the quality inspection report. Many procurement personnel are most likely to be lazy in this aspect. They just randomly take a general report and file it away. This is a big no-no. For official manufacturers, every batch of goods will be sent for inspection. The report will be different for different batches. When I receive the goods on-site, I will definitely ask for the corresponding batch's quality inspection report. I will check the real testing data. If the supplier cannot provide an exclusive report, only a universal template or directly refuses to provide, there is no need to think twice. This batch of goods is definitely unstable in quality, and the parameters have no basis. Supervisors will check and pass the review with caution. We must not accept it in large quantities.

In fact, the quality control of the manufacturer can be roughly judged by the packaging. Factories that truly produce national standard products and have long-term business relationships will not deceive people with sloppy packaging. The handwriting and printing are clear, the factory address, factory name, model specifications, voltage parameters are all complete and neat. Those low-price counterfeit products have blurry packaging, weak handwriting, incomplete information, and even dare not print the real factory address clearly. In short, they are small workshops outsourcing production. The quality control entirely depends on luck. We will not accept such goods at the construction site.

After receiving the goods, you must unpack and inspect, and touch them. Good cables don't need much explanation. The outer skin is smooth, the color is uniform, the entire cable is round and regular, there are no rough particles or uneven flaws. Especially for flexible cables, the insulation layer and the inner insulation and wire core are tightly fitted. You can't even tear it apart with your hands. Poor cables can be identified at a glance. The outer skin is dark, rough, and has a poor feel. The cable body is flat and crooked, the insulation material is particularly poor, and it breaks easily when you pull it. The insulation layer cannot reach the safe thickness, and the long-term electricity usage risk is extremely high.

The most crucial part is to check the copper core and the conductor. After long-term use, you can easily distinguish the good and bad ones. Official national standard cables have a bright and clean copper core, no blackening or oil stains, sufficient wire diameter, stable conductivity, and are not prone to overheating under full load operation. Poor cables are all recycled scrap copper, with many impurities, dark and dull, uneven in thickness, and seriously exceeding the resistance standard. They look usable, but they continue to heat up under load, posing a huge hazard. Many construction site electrical accidents are caused by such poor cables.

Finally, I would like to remind you one more time: always randomly check the meter length! There are too many low-price cables on the market, either of poor material or size reduction. Many merchants just rely on short lengths to lower the unit price and deceive those who are not knowledgeable. The allowable error for national standard cables is only half a meter. Every time I receive goods, I will randomly test a roll and recheck. If the difference is too large, I will directly refuse to accept it. Looking at the low unit price, in fact, the meter length is insufficient, and the loss is extremely high. In the end, it is not passable for acceptance inspection, and it will only cause trouble for yourself.

Over the years of doing engineering projects, Zhongjing Cable has always believed in one sentence: For such concealed projects, never be greedy for cheap prices. The surface may seem similar, but the materials, quality control, and safety are vastly different. Complying with standards for quality inspection and delivering genuine quality are not only responsible for the construction site, but also for one's own project. We need reliable national standard cables. For colleagues who want to know more about avoiding pitfalls in on-site quality inspection, they can communicate more.
